L-Acoustics Restructures and Expands EMEA Sales Team  to Capitalize on Unprecedented Growth

Manchester, UK - August 2024 - Thirty years after Oasis' groundbreaking debut album "Definitely Maybe" first rocked the music world, Liam Gallagher set out to recreate that magic for a new generation. The challenge? Deliver an audio experience that would do justice to the iconic album across a series of sold-out UK arena shows.

To meet the challenge, Skan PA Hire, a Clair Global company, was tasked with crafting a professional sound system capable of unleashing the raw energy and crystal-clear nuances of Gallagher's performances. The mission was clear: achieve consistent, powerful audio that would electrify audiences from the front row to the nosebleed seats.

> We needed a system with serious muscle, but also finesse," explains Sam Parker, Front of House Engineer for the tour. "L-Acoustics was the obvious choice to meet those demands.

Rising to the challenge, Systems Engineer Mark Pantlin designed a comprehensive concert touring system centred around renowned K Series line array speakers from L-Acoustics. The impressive setup features main hangs of 16 K1 over four K2 per side, complemented by side hangs of ten K1 over six K2 per side. Low-end reinforcement is delivered through 12 flown K1-SB subs per side, while coverage to the outer seats of the 270° audience area is handled by two hangs of 12 K3 per side. On the ground, 24 KS28 subwoofers are arranged in eight pods of three, configured in a cardioid pattern for optimised rear rejection and control. The system is rounded out with eight A10 Focus used as front-fills, six A15 Wide as out-fills, and four delay arrays of eight K2 each to ensure well defined and crystal-clear sound throughout the venue.

Pantlin highlights the system's versatility, noting, 

> We created a controlled stage environment with good low-end rejection by positioning the K1-SB subs off-stage of the main arrays, working in conjunction with the cardioid ground sub array. L-Acoustics Soundvision software played a crucial role in the system design process. "Soundvision is invaluable from the very beginning of the design process right through to show day," Pantlin explains. "It very accurately helps us see what the end result will be before the system is even installed.

The result? A sonic experience that transported audiences back to the heady days of Britpop while delivering the punch and clarity expected by modern concertgoers. From the opening chords of "Rock 'n' Roll Star" to the last echoes of "Married with Children," the L-Acoustics system ensured that every seat in the house felt the music's full impact.

HAMBURG, Germany – August 2024 – The Hamburg Congress Centre (CCH), one of Europe's most historic convention facilities, has completed a five-year renovation that marries cutting-edge technology with sustainability. Central to this transformation is the installation of the innovative L Series line source array from L-Acoustics, a professional sound system that combines superior audio quality with impressive environmental credentials.

Built in 1973 and protected as a historic landmark, the CCH has long been a cornerstone of the European convention scene. The recent renovation, led by consultants GRANER + PARTNER, aimed to modernise the facility while preserving its rich heritage. "It makes a huge difference to be able to deliver the very highest quality to our clients - from the architecture to the audio," says Dominik Schenke and of GRANER + PARTNER. "The L-Acoustics L Series breathes new life into the building and opens up endless possibilities for its future."

The installation of the L-Acoustics system was executed by Protones GmbH & Co. KG, a full-service provider based in Lüneburg. Benjamin Schulenkorf, Technical Managing Director at Protones led the project at the CCH, bringing his expertise to this landmark installation.

**Sustainability at the Core**

The CCH's commitment to sustainability was a key factor in choosing L-Acoustics as a partner. The venue recently achieved Gold Certification from the German Sustainable Building Council, becoming the first German convention center to do so.

"From the outset, we were looking for a partner that shared our values and would be able to meet our sustainability standards," Gralf Krüger, Head of Sound at CCH explains. "L-Acoustics was a perfect match."

The L Series loudspeakers align perfectly with the CCH's eco-friendly goals. Compared to traditional line arrays, the L Series offers significant material savings: using 56% less paint, 30% less wood and 60% less steel in the manufacturing process. Moreover, the L Series takes up less space and weighs less than comparable systems, occupying 30% less volume and weighing 25% less than equivalent line source arrays. This efficiency translates to reduced transportation costs and lower carbon footprint.

**Superior Sound and Flexibility**

A selection of audio systems was designed and tested, with the L-Acoustics L Series chosen after rigorous testing, primarily for its superior audio quality and speech intelligibility – crucial factors for the diverse range of events hosted at the CCH. The L Series system was designed using L-Acoustics Soundvision in collaboration between GRANER + PARTNER, Protones and audio consultant Rûdiger Aue. 

The main hall features a Left/Center/Right configuration, with one L2 and L2D speaker forming the left and right arrays, complemented by a centre cluster of one A10i Focus over two A10i Wide speakers. Four KS21 subwoofers per side, in cardioid configuration, are ground-stacked on either side of the stage while two X8 are mounted either side of the stage for out-fill and eight 5XT are placed across the stage lip for in-fill. Two additional hangs of one A10i Focus over one A10i Wide provide stage monitoring. The whole system is powered by L-Acoustics LA7.16i amplified controllers.

The L-Acoustics installation is integrated into a sophisticated media technology network that spans the entire CCH. This network includes Q-SYS Core processors in various halls and utilises Dante audio-over-IP protocol, providing unprecedented flexibility and connectivity. "Our long-standing relationship with CCH and extensive network technology expertise during planning and installation has allowed us to develop a comprehensive in-house audio network that connects all venues, including Hall 1," explains Schulenkorf. 

> Although the system is discreet in size, the output is amazing," Schenke notes. "It means we can meet the requirements of any client without a problem.

The renovation has expanded the CCH's capacity to 12,000 people, with the largest hall seating 3,000. An extensive Dante-based audio network enables connectivity between all halls, providing unparalleled flexibility for various event types.

With its state-of-the-art L-Acoustics L Series professional sound system in place, the CCH is poised to continue its legacy of hosting world-class events while setting new standards in sustainability.

TILBURG, Netherlands - August 2024 — Since 1996, Concertzaal Tilburg has been an important platform in the Netherlands for a wide range of performances, from classical concerts to pop music and spoken word events. The 743-seat auditorium, known for its versatility, hosts everything from small symphonic and chamber music to amplified concerts, festivals, musical theatre and conferences. To better serve its diverse programming and audience, Concertzaal Tilburg, has upgraded its audio with a new L-Acoustics Kara II concert sound system, marking another step in the venue's ongoing commitment to providing quality experiences for both performers and attendees.

> Our goal with this upgrade was to address some of the acoustic challenges we've faced over the years," says Pernel van Herpt, Technical Manager at Concertzaal Tilburg. "The Kara II system gives us more flexibility to accommodate our varied program while ensuring consistent sound quality throughout the hall.

Designed to provide clear, balanced sound while minimising visual impact on the hall's aesthetics Fairlight, L-Acoustics Certified Provider Distributor for the Netherlands, integrated a main PA with left/right hangs of eight Kara II line array speakers covering the ground floor. Panflex at the asymmetric 90° setting helps to avoid reflections from the walls while maintaining a wide stereo image. Six KS21 are centrally flown in two columns of three, giving consistent low-end coverage and benefitting from both cardioid and end-fire technology for minimised reflections and maximised rejection on stage. Five 5XT provide front row coverage and imaging. The hall features two balconies that are covered by a distributed system of 5XT and A10i in white, to integrate nicely with the architecture. A P1 processor provides Milan-AVB networking with the LA4X and LA7.16i amplified controllers.

Concertzaal Tilburg Upgrades to L-Acoustics Kara II Concert Sound System to Improve Audience Experience

LONDON, UK, August 2024 - "L-Acoustics was specifically requested for this tour. It's the system I feel most comfortable with after years of working with it, mixing for other artists," shares Philip Harvey, Front of House Engineer for Keane. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of their album "Hopes and Fears," Keane embarked on a triumphant UK arena tour that presented a unique set of acoustic challenges. The tour, spanning six arenas for seven shows, including two nights at London's O2 Arena, demanded a concert sound system to deliver both whisper-quiet moments and full-on, high-energy peaks with equal clarity and power.

> While Keane is known for their melodic ballads, their live performances demand a very dynamic sound," explains Harvey. "Our goal was to deliver a powerful rock show that ranges from the intimate moments to thunderous crescendos, all while ensuring every seat in the house received a consistent audio impact.

The hurdles to achieving this goal included varying sizes and acoustics of the arenas and set design, which featured a T-shaped thrust extending into the audience, complicating speaker placement and coverage. Lastly, a requirement to deliver consistent sound quality throughout the venue without relying on delay hangs added another layer of complexity.

To meet these challenges head-on, Keane's team turned to L-Acoustics and their Certified Provider, Solotech. Tim Mitchell, Project Manager at Solotech, elaborates on their approach: 

> Coverage was our main goal, making sure everyone received the same full spectrum audio impact. With most of the audience in allocated seats, we needed the sound to reach every one of them with a comparable quality and power.

The solution came in the form of a comprehensive L-Acoustics K Series configuration. The concert touring system featured 16 K1+6 K2 per side for the main L/R hangs, 16 K2 each for side hangs and eight K3 for the 180º hangs per side of line array speakers, complemented by eight flown KS28 subwoofers in a cardioid configuration per side toed out 30º with 18 ground stacked KS28 subwoofers in a cardioid sub-arc array. Out-fills consisted of four A15 Wide per side, with 12 Kara II used for each the front and thrust fills. All enclosures were powered by LA12X amplified controllers, with system control managed by three P1 processors on a Milan-AVB network. 

L-Acoustics Soundvision software played a crucial role in the system design process. Initial designs were created by veteran US System Engineer Michael Gazdziak, who Philip Harvey had worked with on multiple tours and brought on board, the designs were then refined for each venue on the ground by Solotech's touring System Engineer, Rich Kemp. Mitchell adds, "Soundvision was used extensively throughout the design process of this system, allowing us to adapt to the intricacies of each venue."

The team employed innovative techniques to address the unique challenges posed by the T-shaped thrust. 

> Panflex was used on the K2 down-fills to minimise spill onto the thrust," Mitchell explains. "A strategically placed second row of Kara II along the edge of the thrust provided in-fill for the areas affected by the stage structure and those not covered by the K2 down-fills.

The result was a resounding success. Harvey is enthused about the system's performance: 

> I always have a smile on my face working with a skilfully deployed and tuned L-Acoustics system and walk away satisfied. The barometer for success of this UK arena leg was the two O2 shows, and we were overwhelmed by compliments and positive feedback.

The tour's triumph was reflected in the response from both the band and industry professionals.

> I heard from the band later that well-known musicians, music producers, and production heads attended those shows, and all were blown away by the production and performance," Harvey concludes. "'Keane has never sounded better!' was a personal favourite accolade from an industry professional close to the band.

Throughout its 150-year history, the venue has staged all manner of productions and today is known for its offering of modern dance, theatre and world music.  Following a major seven-year refurbishment designed to equip the 19th century building with 21st century innovation, Théâtre de la Ville has again placed itself on the edge of technology, able to offer L-ISA immersive experiences to audiences via its BLive-installed sound system.

For almost a decade, Théâtre de la Ville had been in search of the perfect system to realise its immersive audio ambitions. As part of a wider refurbishment, the venue, in collaboration with L-Acoustics Certified Partner BLive – a long-time technology partner and friend of the venue - embarked on a number of visits to immersive system demos. With optimal audio capabilities being the primary goal, other crucial considerations were weight restrictions and placement limitations due to the historical architecture and a need for versatility to address the hugely eclectic range of productions.  

After careful deliberation, Théâtre de la Ville concluded that L-Acoustics L-ISA technology was the perfect fit, landing on a 20.1. Scene System of five hangs of two SB15m over eight Kiva II with a centre-flown cluster of six KS21 subwoofers. Thirteen X8 hung around the sides of the venue, balcony edge and ceiling provide surround sound to the parterre while 17 further 5XT speakers nestled in the walls provide surround sound to the under-balcony seats. 

> The full surround configuration provides exceptional sound quality without compromising any of the space’s aesthetic splendor,” commented Alexandre Tramontin of BLive, who lead a team of engineers and experts throughout the specification and installation process. 

Five LA7.16i amplified controllers were specified for their low energy consumption and high channel count, which allowed for fewer rack space and less cabling. The LA7.16i was found to provide exceptional power output when required, but consume minimal power when not, leading to 30% less power consumption as compared to other similar systems. 

A vital element of the success of the project was the close collaboration between Théâtre de la Ville and BLive, which took an especially proactive role in helping the theatre to achieve their desired results. BLive and L-Acoustics also provided all Théâtre de la Ville staff with comprehensive training on the new system and helped them to adapt their process from stereo to fully immersive surround sound.

BUSSUM, Netherlands - July 2024 — Theatre Spant!, a cornerstone of cultural programming in Bussum, has taken a significant step forward in audio quality with the installation of a new L-Acoustics Kara IIi professional sound system. This upgrade, part of a broader renovation, aims to deliver improved sound experiences across the venue's diverse range of events.

> We recognised the need to update our 20-year-old system, especially to address dispersion issues, as we’d hear from audience in the front rows that the sound was too aggressive, but those in the balcony had trouble hearing," explains Jan Willem van Voorst and Frans Grolle, Audio Technicians at Theatre Spant! "Our goal was to ensure consistent, high-quality audio throughout the entire space.

The venue's requirements were comprehensive: improved dispersion, appropriate sound pressure levels, and accurate reproduction across the audio spectrum. Importantly, the new system needed to be versatile enough to handle everything from corporate events with multiple headsets to theatrical performances and concerts.

After careful consideration and a demonstration organised with L-Acoustics Certified Provider Distributor Fairlight, the L-Acoustics Kara IIi system emerged as the preferred choice. The teams collaborated closely, using L-Acoustics Soundvision software to design a solution tailored to Theatre Spant!'s specific needs. The new setup features left/right line arrays, each comprising two SB18 IIi subwoofers and eight Kara IIi enclosures. Additional components include KS28 subwoofers and X12 in-fills on stage, four 5XT speakers for front-fill, and strategically placed 5XT in-fills behind the balcony light coves.

> The installation process was smooth and professional," van Voorst notes. "The Fairlight and L-Acoustics teams worked well with our in-house technicians, paying close attention to details like amplifier placement and connectivity. This has resulted in a system that's both powerful and user-friendly.

With this upgrade, Theatre Spant! is now better equipped to handle its varied program of events. The new system provides improved sound distribution and quality across the venue, with particular improvement noted in the previously challenging balcony area.

> We wanted a high-quality immersive speaker system to offer a unique event space in Berlin," says Jens Breetz, Technical Manager at EUREF. "L-Acoustics has been our partner since 2016, but when Thomas Mehlhorn, Senior Application Engineer at L-Acoustics, introduced us to L-ISA, we knew we had found something extraordinary.

The Gasometer's ground floor and gallery level now house a flexible event space designed to host everything from high-profile government congresses to concerts. The venue's technical capabilities are as adaptable as its physical space, featuring moveable platforms that can transform from a flat floor to a raked theatre setup at the touch of a button.

L-Acoustics Soundvision software played a crucial role in the planning phase, allowing the team to visualise the L-ISA immersive audio experience in the unique circular space. "During the planning, it became even more apparent that L-ISA was definitely the way to go," Breetz explains. "We needed a very flexible sound reinforcement system to cope with the various configurations. An immersive system was essential, as a localised sound source is crucial for improved cognitive function at conferences."

The L-ISA Scene configuration consists of five hangs of four A10 Focus and one A10 Wide, complemented by two hangs of three KS21 subwoofers flown centrally. Ten 5XT speakers are evenly spaced along the stage front for spatial front-fill. This setup ensures that every seat in the house experiences rich, immersive sound, regardless of the event type or room configuration.

The system's versatility was put to the test during Bestival Berlin 2022, where a prototype was installed in the Gasometer's shell. Paired with a tracking system from Lightpower, it created a mesmerizing interplay between light and sound, offering a glimpse of the venue's future capabilities.

Despite the challenges presented by the Gasometer's unique architecture – including its large glass surfaces and semi-circular shape – the L-ISA immersive audio technology has exceeded expectations. "It was immediately clear to us that we had made the right choice," Breetz notes. "There are hardly any sound reflections, and we have an immersive sound system we are proud of."

Formerly Elmia Konsert & Kongress, the venue was renovated and rebranded before reopening in November of last year. The renovation was a collaboration between JKPG Fast which owns the property, Elmia, and Destination Jönköping which manages the space. Together. they ensured that the renewed venue was focused on enhancing the experience for both business and cultural events. 

The state-of-the-art L-Acoustics L Series concert sound system from L-Acoustics marks a significant milestone in the ongoing transformation of Jönköping Konsert & Kongress, solidifying its status as a premier destination for cultural and corporate events. Those events are diverse, ranging from congresses and corporate meetings to performances that include stand-up comedy, musicals, and concerts. The venue’s centrepiece, the 1,000-seat Hammarskjöld Hall frequently sells out.

Installed by L-Acoustics Certified Provider Integrator JLE Audio, the system consists of two left/right hangs of one L2 over one L2D which provide clarity and advanced directional control across all frequencies. Four KS28 subwoofers are flown centrally with an additional four KS28 placed on the floor to provide low-end extension, while eight X8 coaxial loudspeakers are used for front-fill and two for under balcony fill. Amplified controllers driving the system include four LA7.16i for the L Series, two LA12X for the KS28, one LA4X for front-fills and one LA2Xi for under balcony fills. The whole system feeds from one P1 processor through a Milan-AVB network.

Jönköping Konsert & Kongress Installs First L-Acoustics L Series in Nordics

CHÂLONS-EN-CHAMPAGNE, France – June 2024 – Poised at the gateway to the stunning Champagne vineyards, Châlons-en-Champagne is steeped in heritage and culture, blending history with forward-thinking innovation. Its cathedrals and gothic architecture house a vibrant creative community. Le Capitole en Champagne's multi-purpose venue showcases creativity, serving the community with events ranging from one-person shows to live music and musicals in a versatile space that weaves history, culture, and class together. Opened in 2012 and managed by S-Pass TSE group, the modular space can hold 3,600 in a mix of seated and standing audiences.

**K2 versatile concert sound for a diverse range of shows**

In 2023, faced with an expanding lineup of events, Le Capitole en Champagne updated the existing audio system, aiming for top-tier sound quality and versatility to meet diverse demands. Julien Dejonckeere, Technical Director at S-Pass TSE, which manages the venue, specified an L-Acoustics professional audio system and contacted local Certified Provider Integrator Lagoona. Alongside optimal sound, they sought features like room mapping and easy installation. Using Soundvision, a Left/Right system with centre fill was designed, comprising Eight K2 with three Kara II down per side and four KS28 subwoofers flown behind each side. The centre hang features three A15i Focus and one A15i Wide. Four A10 Wide per side) serve as out-fills, with six X8 as front-fills. The system is driven by six LA7.16i, and two LA12X amplified controllers, with one P1 processor and six LS10 Milan-AVB switches.  Using the LA7.16i allows for Auto-FIR processing of each K2 and keeps energy consumption to the strict necessary. A stage monitor system of eight X12 is powered by two LA4X amplified controllers.

**Real savings for travelling productions**

According to Yannick Robert, Director of Le Capitole en Champagne, the new system has been a roaring success, fulfilling its mission to facilitate all applications. 

> I’d say that the installation of this system has been amazing. It allows us to have a room equipped with superb sound, which saves productions having to rent and install equipment,” he says. “This translates to real budget economies for those productions.

And the feedback? It’s been overwhelmingly positive. Everyone who has used or heard the system, from engineers to performers and audiences, has praised it. The system responds flawlessly to the diverse demands that Capitole manages and fits the bill for visiting artists who appreciate the rider-friendly professional sound system in the venue. 

Robert reports that the new L-Acoustics professional sound system has pushed the envelope at Le Capitole, ensuring the venue offers diversified programming and attracts ever-more innovative and spectacular shows. 

> It's entirely possible that having a concert sound system of this quality will be the deciding factor for productions to perform at Le Capitole,” he says. “The mission was to offer a complete solution for all shows, and that’s certainly been achieved.
