Coez & Frah Quintale are one of the most exciting acts on the Italian music scene. Both artists have forged successful solo careers, blending poignant songwriting and hip-pop beats to create a distinct style all their own. Together the pair released an album, Lovebars, which they supported with a national tour, selling out arenas throughout the country. Embracing the absolute latest in technology, the duo adopted immersive audio for their live shows via L-ISA spatial audio technology and did so by pairing for the very first time with L Series, the very latest in line array technology.

Compact, lightweight, and using up to 60% less material to build, the L Series is designed to occupy 30% less space than other products capable of the same output, minimizing trucks on the road, and lightening the carbon footprint of the tour.

**Using immersive audio to create a small venue atmosphere in an arena**

For Coez & Frah Quintale, the opportunity to offer an immersive experience to their fans enabled them to create an intimate environment in what was a significant step up for the pair in terms of venue size. “I was a little afraid of the size of the arena, because other shows I've seen in my life, they could be a little cold,” Frah notes. “This system allowed us to create the vibe and the atmosphere of a smaller venue, on a bigger level.”

Sound Designer Valerio Motta, who worked with the artists to help them adopt both L-ISA and L Series, agrees. “The use of L-ISA was a huge upgrade in terms of spatialisation, focus, sound impact and sound definition. Adding L Series was the icing on the cake. L2 is a huge advance in many ways: smaller footprint, easy to rig, and lighter weight which is crucial when you are using several hangs in an immersive configuration.” 

**L-ISA immersive audio with compact, powerful L Series…. the way of the future**

“In many ways, L Series was developed with L-ISA in mind” explains Tom Laveuf, Application Engineer at L-Acoustics. “L Series was designed for rapid deployment and lower margins for error. It’s also unobtrusive, integrating discreetly into the set. Combine that with vast advancements in the quality of concert sound reinforcement, and these features make it more feasible for our industry to adopt L-ISA technology for live sound… which is the way of the future.

> Coez and Frah Quintale are hip-hop artists with a very reactive audience, and the most important aspects of the genre are the vocals, and the beat. It was obvious to me that the whole of the audience was unified in the experience, you could tell that every fan was hearing, and feeling, the same things,” Laveuf continues.

The 5.1 Scene System, provided by L-Acoustics Certified Provider AgorÀ, was comprised of five hangs of two L2 over one L2D, with eight KS28 subwoofers in two hangs of eight flown behind the central L2/L2D hang. Twenty-four K2 were used as out-fills, while 14 Kara II on the stage lip provided spatial in-fill. Six further KS28 were placed in two left/right ground stacks in front of the stage provided the extra punch necessary for a hip-hop audience. LA7.16 and LA12X amplified controllers drove the whole system.

**Creating a sense of connection between artist and audience**

The added sense of intimacy brought to the tour by the L-ISA technology is something that Motta was keenly aware of. “Coez & Frah Quintale found a connection with the audience that allowed them to experience the shows at another level,” he explains. “The front of house engineer was able to spatialise the mix and immerse the whole of the audience in the same experience.”

Coez & Frah were so engaged in the choice of an L-ISA immersive experience that they took time out of their show to explain the technology to their fans every single night. “They themselves felt the difference and wanted their audience to understand it. I believe they also feel that it is the way of the future, and that this is simply a better way to experience live music,” concludes Motta.

**Professional audio for an enhanced evening atmosphere**

At the gateway to London’s financial district, The Wolseley City opened on the twentieth anniversary of its iconic sibling, The Wolseley Piccadilly. With a grand, double storey stone-clad restaurant and mezzanine dining, two private dining rooms, and three bar and salon spaces, The Wolseley City serves hearty breakfasts and an all-day dining menu in a century-old building with interiors designed by Fabled Studio. With its common thread across both restaurants, The Wolseley City highlights Byzantine chandeliers, Baroque ironwork and intricate 1920s Egyptian Revival touches. A reimagination of a well-recognised vista with central horseshoe banquette, the groyne vault ceilings, starburst stone flooring and grand, double storey pillars offers a perfect composition and balance to a reinterpretation of the vaulted ceilings and grand, ten-metre-high pillars associated with its Piccadilly sister. Building on a reputation as one of London’s most prestigious daytime dining spots, The Wolseley City features live jazz and an enhanced evening ambiance, for which professional audio is key.

Accompanying the Group in its audio/visual strategy, Knektd specified an L-Acoustics X Series audio system for The Wolseley City. 

> To match the prestige of the space and the name of this property, we recommended L-Acoustics, an audio brand that equals The Wolseley brand in quality.” The speakers would need to provide powerful, coherent coverage throughout while melting into the stunning décor. Shaun and his team felt that the best way to accomplish this would be to install speakers high up at the top of the massive marble pillars. “We used L-Acoustics Soundvision 3D modelling software to analyse if we could get even coverage throughout from this high placement,” explains Wilson. “Soundvision showed us that we’d get a perfect result.

**Discreet but powerful audio**

Twenty-four discreet L-Acoustics X4i are placed around the main dining room, many of them RAL-coloured to blend into the décor. Eight SB10i subs are placed at the bottom of pillars or hidden in walls and banquettes. On the mezzanine and private rooms, eight further X4i are discreetly placed at the ceiling, while six SB6i are built into the walls. The speaker system is powered by seven LA2Xi amplified controllers, occupying just 7U of rack space, allowing for smooth integration into the AV control rack.

**Choosing professional audio at the concept design stage**

Working from a draft script from the Director of the theatre show, Manzoni was keen to immerse himself in the unique ambience, and secured a 30-day residency in the remote town of Isafjordur in the Westfjords. Manzoni embarked on 12 excursions over the 30 days to remote locations devoid of human presence, to capture the raw environmental sounds with 2 Rycote HC-15 shotgun microphones, that would infuse 'Qivittoq's' soundtrack with an unparalleled authenticity, alongside his composition and production efforts.

> Venturing into the Icelandic wilderness presented a captivating challenge," reflects Manzoni. "The elemental sounds of ice, wind, and dock wood have always fascinated me, and recording them along with the sounds of waterfalls, waves and Ravens amidst the stark beauty of Iceland's landscapes was truly inspiring. My objective was to integrate the essence of nature into the fabric of my composition, establishing a profound connection between sound and narrative. The result is a purely organic auditory experience.

Since its viral debut, Rockin'1000 has evolved into a global phenomenon, orchestrating annual events across Europe and Brazil. With a global family of over 40,000 members, these shows are a testament to the power of music, bringing together musicians from diverse backgrounds to create visually and acoustically stunning performances in iconic locations like Paris, Frankfurt, Madrid and São Paulo. To cover the entire 360° arena audience seating area in Cesena, Stefani designed a system composed of a distributed L/R configuration using 108 K2 loudspeakers, reinforced by 40 K1-SB and 40 KS28 subwoofers. These were ground-stacked all around the outer edge of the pitch in 10 left/right sets consisting of four or six K2 over two K1-SB subs, with 10 additional stacks of four KS28 subwoofers for low end reinforcement, capable of delivering ample headroom and consistent crystal-clear sound, even amidst dense harmonic content.

Massive L-Acoustics K Series Installation Powers Up Rockin’1000 in Cesena

MARRAKECH, Morocco, March 2024 – When Theatro Marrakech opened its doors in 2003, it was the very first nightclub in Morocco, and today, the 2,000-capacity venue still stages one of the most unique nightlife experiences in the world. Its consistent ranking as the best nightclub in Morocco, the best in Africa and one of the globe’s Top 50 has cemented the venue on the bucket list of travellers and artists alike. Before becoming a nightlife hotspot, Theatro was Africa’s first music hall, inaugurated over 60 years ago, and from this past, the club has kept both its unique décor – a mix of dramatic theatrical and dynamic Moroccan themes - and an immoderate taste for show.

**Upgrading to a professional sound system to defend world-ranking status**

Defending a competitive and coveted spot on the world’s nightlife ranking means keeping up with the best technology and for that reason, Theatro Marrakech recently upgraded to a premium L-Acoustics K2 sound system to attract leading international artists who know and appreciate the brand. Inspired by a visit to Omnia Las Vegas and its L-Acoustics professional sound system, Theatro management worked with renowned Paris-based nightclub consultant Timothée Renard of the Fox Agency and L-Acoustics Certified Provider Integrator Potar Hurlant for the upgrade. "Our main objective was to integrate a rider-ready sound system to attract internationally acclaimed artists and provide a unique experience for all of our clubbers, from the main floor to the intimate VIP areas," commented Renard.  

Timothée Renard and the POTAR team, with the support of L-Acoustics Application Engineer Pascal Charousset, created a unique sound design for each section of the space: the central dance floor, a mezzanine, an ultra-VIP lounge facing the dance floor, and a mini-VIP zone just behind the DJ booth. The main dance floor and an upper balcony are covered by an L/R system of six K2 per side with four KS28 in cardioid configuration flown behind each hang, while three flown A15 Wide per side provide in-fill to the main dance floor while two A15 Focus per side are used for side-fill to a podium for performers and dancers. The DJ booth is flanked with one KS21 per side, topped by two A15 Focus for monitoring. A tiered mini-VIP area behind the DJ booth has an LCR system of three A15 Wide for the upper tier while the lower tier is served by five X8 coaxials. A single KS28 and LR hangs of three A15 Wide cover the dance floor from this area. Fourteen LA12X and three LA4X amplified controllers drive the entire system over Milan-AVB networking.

An ultra-VIP lounge below the balcony has a system of two hangs of one A15 Wide and one A15 Focus in front, with two additional hangs of one A15 Wide in the back corners and a ground-stacked KS28 topped by two KS21 subwoofers.

To enhance its offering to all, hetpaleis has recently upgraded its audio infrastructure with L-ISA immersive audio by L-Acoustics, marking the first L-ISA installation in Flanders. When considering upgrading the theatre’s sound, hetpaleis reached out to Brussels-based L-Acoustics Certified Partner XLR, building on their successful collaborations on previous projects. 

> Bob Hermans, Sound designer/Engineer at hepaleis adds: We immediately recognised the need to explore immersive, object-based mixing for our future sound system. L-Acoustics emerged as the optimal solution, meeting our specific criteria for immersive audio while remaining within budget.

The new system needed to be at least 180° immersive, object-based, and ideally expandable to 360° in the future. It had to be fully compatible with both LR and LCR mixing to meet existing requirements and perfectly suited to the venue's aural and acoustic needs.

XLR accompanied the theatre’s audio team to L-Acoustics headquarters in Marcoussis where the decision to implement L-ISA technology was solidified after a demo where the team experienced firsthand the immersive capabilities of L-ISA.

The biggest challenge was the deployment of the L-ISA configuration because of the limited clearance due to acoustic panels and sharing the tight space with the lighting department. To utilise the limited height in the most efficient way possible, holes were drilled in the acoustic panels to allow steel wires to connect to each array individually, instead of rigging them all to one lateral truss, which would have taken up valuable space. 

This allowed for five hangs of three A10, without disrupting sightlines from the top rows of the balcony, while still maintaining impressive SPL, throw and vertical coverage. 

The front of the stage is curved outwards. This means that the coverage of the scene system is challenged at the outer seats of the first rows. With nine 5XT spatial front-fills, the immersive element of the mix is perfectly represented for those audience members that don’t receive full coverage from the scene system. One X8 per side on the proscenium helps to keep coverage 100% when a performance does not allow for front-fills.

A very impressive low end is delivered by a horizontal array of four KS21i flown behind the sound system, providing perfect coverage straight up to the balcony. Cardioid mode limits rear rejection, keeping the performers on stage comfortable.

The entire system is fed by two LA7.16i amplified controllers which receive signal input via redundant Milan-AVB from the L-ISA Processor II. The combination of A10 clusters and KS21 subs, with the LA7.16i amps providing each cabinet with its own amplifier channel offered a perfect solution for their budget. 

> Hermans adds, "The ability to place objects, and for everyone in the room to actually experience that placement is just phenomenal. To me, the difference with conventional dual mono LR and LCR systems is very significant. We recently experimented with a Zactrack system that tracks actors' positions on stage, and the L-ISA Processor automatically translates these positions to the system's respective speakers, resulting in a very realistic listening experience. We hope to do this more often in the future.

> The feedback from the theatre's team has been overwhelmingly positive. They are extremely satisfied with the power and distribution of the audio, and they are pleased with the non-intrusive installation that delivers such an immersive sonic experience," comments Nico Devroe, Area Sales Manager at XLR.

Ashby de la Zouch, UK, March 2024 - Keith Alexander, a Dublin-based freelance sound recordist, began his career in the music industry managing bands and fostering a lifelong passion for sound and music. His love for studio recording led him to work in Windmill Lane Studio, an international establishment studio complex that has had the privilege of working on acclaimed projects such as ACDC's Thunderstruck. Keith consistently used Rycote's products for his recording sessions, both in the studio and on location. Recently, he faced the wind for a challenging project off the coast of Ireland. 

> My early experience in music and managing bands ignited my passion for sound and music," says Alexander. "This enthusiasm led me to discover studio recording, opening up a whole new world.

After transitioning from the music studio to location sound, Alexander then moved into post-production for cinema and TV, and then to animation. His diverse experience in the sound industry has given him a unique perspective and rich expertise in his field.

Keith's has recently been involved in some concurrent projects on the Aran Islands, off the coast of Ireland, that came with significant challenges for sound and voice recording.These projects required robust, versatile and reliable kit that could withstand the harsh conditions.

Employing the Rycote Nanoshield, together with a HC-22 mic, a pair of HC-15's short shotgun microphones and the CA-08 cardioid mic for different recording situations. For one of the projects, Alexander spent three days on the island recording sound effects. To capture the essence of the island effectively, he could use the elements to design a soundscape for the movie that was being produced for the project. For a separate project, Alexander used accessories such as lav covers, stickies, Super-softies, and overcovers as well as Classic-Softies for concealing his mics as the predominant element that is present on the island during the winter is the thunderous winds that scour the island constantly. With the wind comes the cold and cold hands so all stands, booms and handles required the PCS system to allow easy exchange of mics to suit each situation.

> One of the projects is to record an album of traditional singing with a renowned local singer. He is recording vocals with the HC15. "The HC-15 sounds great with voice, and is a super quiet mic which works well for vocals," says Alexander. "The versatility of these mics is unmatched - they're lightweight and adaptable, essential during these projects.

The Aran Islands’ projects presented several unique challenges, including the sheer amount of gear required and the constant, deafening wind coming in from the Atlantic. Alexander had to find creative solutions to these problems.

> The wind was a major issue, especially during the winter months, and in these conditions, I need to trust my equipment implicitly," recalls Alexander. "I doubled up on Rycote windshields for my Nanoshield to combat the relentless wind, especially out on the boat, which provided superior protection.

Despite these challenges, Alexander found that the versatility and range of Rycote's products greatly facilitated his work. He also discovered that the wind, while initially a hindrance, could be used to his advantage in creating a unique soundtrack.

> The complexities of the wind became a theme in the soundtrack," explains Alexander. "I used it in the sound design to emphasise the emotion and the personality of each shot. One of the most interesting recordings I captured was the sound of the wind through the walls of an ancient fort on the island with ambisonic mics. It sounded just like every voice those walls have heard for the past 4000 years, beautiful.

POZNAN, Poland, February 2024 – The 900 capacity Teatr Wielki w Poznaniu, also known as the Poznań Opera House, is a significant cultural institution in Poznań, Poland’s fifth largest city and the historical capital of the Greater Poland region. The theatre's architecture is a testament to Poznań's history, making it more than an entertainment venue: the space is a monument of cultural significance. Today, following extensive technological updates, including installing the world’s first L-Acoustics Ambiance Active Acoustics system in an opera, the Poznań Opera House has evolved into a multipurpose venue, ready to welcome a diverse array of events, from educational activities and classic opera performances to contemporary stage productions. 

The Opera House symbolizes over a hundred years of presence of the opera scene in Poznań. The Poznań Opera House prides itself on an attractive and diverse repertoire, from opera and ballet classics to contemporary compositions, productions prepared in accordance with current theatre trends and cooperation with the most renowned directors, conductors, set designers, choreographers etc. and soloists. The venue has mounted bold stagings of Moniuszko's operas that have been awarded the prestigious International Opera Awards in 2021 and 2023. In cooperation with OperaVision, productions of the Poznań Opera House are streamed to viewers around the world. The Poznań Opera House is one of the leading artistic institutions in Poland, working on social integration, intercultural dialogue and the promotion of innovative solutions on and off stage. This year, the Opera was awarded the FEDORA Audience Prize for “Swans,” created in cooperation with dancers who are blind, visually impaired and using alternative motor skills.

Renovations to improve the experience for both the audience and the performers began in 2021. The upgrades include a new hydraulic stage, lighting updates, acoustics refinement, and the installation of L-ISA Immersive Hyperreal technology and Ambiance Active Acoustics system by L-Acoustics. 

Warsaw-based L-Acoustics Certified Provider Audio Plus were entrusted to design a sound system that prioritised maximum audience coverage and the ability to reinforce a diverse offering of content, while preserving the architectural integrity of this beloved venue. 
Audio Plus have a solid foundation of successful past collaborations with L-Acoustics, including an L-ISA installation in the award-winning Cavatina Hall, which was the venue that caught the ear of the Grand Theater team.

The Poznań Opera House is a historically classified building, making any acoustical treatment that modifies the architecture forbidden. Working to overcome this challenge, Audio Plus collaborated with L-Acoustics to propose a solution based on Ambiance Active Acoustics, which would give the theatre both an immersive sound reinforcement solution, and the ability to adapt room acoustics at the press of a button to match the performance on stage, whether classical opera or modern music. 

Audio Plus began by designing a 360° L-ISA audio configuration to provide the audience with a natural, immersive audio experience. This configuration begins with a 5.1 system spread across the proscenium. An additional 62 loudspeakers are dotted around the side and back walls, as well as under the balcony to envelope the audience in sound. Speakers that were destined to be hung on-wall were custom coloured in burgundy while those that were mounted on or under the pristine white balconies were provided in a matching white. Twelve speakers are hidden behind acoustically transparent white grills unobtrusively set into the ceiling, and two further speakers are even tucked away inside the theatre’s iconic, massive, ceiling-mounted chandelier.  

Adding Ambiance Active Acoustics to the immersive sound set-up allows the theatre to cater to different shows, adapting to the venue's unique acoustics. To accomplish this, eleven small microphones are hidden in the ceiling - three of them in the chandelier. These capture the atmosphere of the venue, allowing the Ambiance Active Acoustics system to transform that information and feed it back through a further 20 speakers hidden in the theatre. Delay and reverberation over the spectrum of early to late reflections are added to the natural room response as needed to create the Ambiance – a cathedral, an intimate music venue, or even just the natural, clear sound of an opera house – that the venue requires.  

Five additional microphones are placed on the stage to collect sound from the artists and feed it back to them through stage monitors, ensuring they have clear sound that gives them the comfort and confidence to perform at their best. 

> The challenge was to install the sound system in such a way that it provided exceptional sound coverage, while ensuring minimal visual and spatial impact. This was achieved by hiding the elevation speakers through holes in the ceiling, while ordering the front and side speakers in a custom burgundy to blend seamlessly with the interior decor, explains 
Piotr Kozłowski, Acoustician and owner of Pracownia Akustyczna Kozłowski, who was responsible for the stage and audience acoustic design at Poznań Opera House.


The acoustics in the venue were already outstanding but now, with Ambiance, the Poznań Opera House is an even better opera theatre, with audio technology that makes it sound more natural, clearer, and more comfortable than before. But it has also gained the ability to be a multifunctional auditorium with versatile acoustics and cutting-edge technology that can adapt to speech, chamber orchestra, philharmonic music or amplified pop music at a moment’s notice. And this was achieved without resorting to physically altering the space's audio characteristics using heavy curtains or acoustic panels, which can be costly and challenging to install, while also lacking in flexibility. And of course, in the case of Poznań Opera House, is forbidden due to the building’s conservation status.

> This venue was built 110 years ago, when there were no sound reinforcement systems, and many of the productions that we mount are also from that era and don’t require sound reinforcement. Our goal is to preserve the traditional sound of the facility, which is very good. Yet developments in technology allow us to adopt tools like Ambiance that expand our creative capacities, and that’s a good thing, says Krystian Kołakowski, Head of Sound and Projection Team at Poznań Opera House.

The set-up includes four Bluesound PULSE M speakers, two in black and two in white. The PULSE M's OmniHybrid™ driver features an up-firing 5 ¼” woofer and two ¾”" tweeters mounted at 45 degrees offset from each other, delivering an immersive, 360-degree soundstage. A custom-designed acoustic reflector situated above the woofer diffuses unwanted sonic artefacts, directing the higher frequencies out and away from the speaker. The driver assembly relies on a meticulously engineered power supply and a DSP smart amplifier which produces 80 watts of system power. This enables real-time monitoring and control of frequency bandwidth, dynamic range, and distortion, ensuring rich and clear audio from nearly any listening position.

LAS VEGAS — For the first time in history, the biggest game in American Football descended upon Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium. This presented a massive new challenge: managing the Super Bowl’s immense production in Las Vegas’ already crowded wireless radio frequency (RF) environment.

The RF team depended on ten [AD4Q Four-Channel Digital Wireless Receivers](https://www.shure.com/en-US/products/wireless-systems/axient_digital/ad4q?variant=AD4Q-DC%3D-A), an [AD600 Axient Digital Spectrum Manager](https://www.shure.com/en-US/products/accessories/ad600?variant=AD600-DC), and two [AXT400 Axient Dual Channel Receivers](https://www.shure.com/en-US/products/wireless-systems/axient_wireless_management_network/axt400). For another year, ATK used Axient Digital AD4Q with Quadversity, a patented Shure technology, leveraging four simultaneous RF inputs to feed a single RF channel. Quadversity can extend the coverage area of a microphone channel or enable multiple coverage areas with additional antenna inputs, making it ideal for challenging RF environments like Las Vegas. 

ATK Audiotek and Professional Wireless Systems (PWS) handled all wireless microphones and IEM systems for the pre-game entertainment, halftime entertainment, and referees. This is the 27th year PWS has served as ATK’s wireless partner at the big game. 

The team included Broadcast Mixer Tom Holmes, Entertainment Front of House Mixer Alex Gussard, Entertainment Front of House Music Mixer Dave Natale, Monitor Mixer Tom Pesa, Lead RF Engineer Cameron Stuckey, and RF Techs Gary Trenda and Kasey Gchachu. The RF Team Lead for CP Communications was Loren Sherman. The production was made possible by a hardworking crew of A2s. 

Michael Mason, President of CP Communications, worked with his team to supply 45 channels of Axient Digital wireless and 14 channels of [Shure PSM® 1000 In-Ear Monitoring Systems](https://protect-us.mimecast.com/s/VcYtCrkq77cXj9NPh7T6oF?domain=shure.com) that were used for the pre-half and post-game studio shows as well as in game reports from the sidelines.  Michael also made a point to note that Shure equipment was not only present for the big game, but for studio shows around Las Vegas during pre-week as well the Opening Night, Red Carpet, and Honors shows.

That acceptance allows our audio team to not worry about trying to make some other product work. Also, as always, cue mode saves the day when quickly bringing a mix to a pack for a choreographer, guest engineer, or producer to hear what any particular artist is hearing.

Days before the game, football players joined GRAMMY award-winning musical artists to share uplifting music and inspirational messages during the Super Bowl Soulful Celebration. All performers at this event were equipped with [Shure KSM8 microphones](https://www.shure.com/en-US/products/microphones/ksm8?variant=KSM8%2FB).

Before kickoff, Reba McEntire trusted Shure Axient Digital for her spectacular live performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”  Reba used a frequency diversity handheld microphone transmitter outfitted with a nickel-plated [KSM11 capsule](https://www.shure.com/en-US/products/microphones/ksm11?variant=RPW192). The accompanying drumline was also relying on Axient Digital transmitters.

Andra Day’s rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” was performed on Shure Axient Digital Frequency Diverse (FD) wireless transmitters. Also, Cameron Heyward of the Pittsburgh Steelers accepted the Walter Payton Man of the Year award with an Axient Digital transmitter and KSM9 microphone capsule. 

Every handheld transmitter on stage during the Halftime Show was Axient Digital (ADX2 / ADX2FD) and nearly every performer featured new, patented Shure microphone technology. For headsets, multiple artists used [Axient AXT100 bodypacks](https://www.shure.com/en-US/products/wireless-systems/axient_wireless_management_network/axt100). One of these artists was H.E.R., who used AXT100 for her headset and guitar. She also relied on a new Shure microphone technology for her jaw-dropping on-stage appearance. 

For another year, referees used two Axient Digital ADX1 bodypack transmitters working together in Frequency Diversity mode and paired with Shure’s premium subminiature T[L47 model TwinPlex® omnidirectional lavalier microphones](https://www.shure.com/en-US/products/microphones/tl47?variant=TL47B%2FO-LEMO). While omnidirectional lavaliers are typically used in controlled audio environments like theaters, TwinPlex was uniquely suited for this stadium application, given the lavalier microphone’s ultra-pristine, natural response, and off-axis consistency. 

Meanwhile, the CBS broadcast relied on ADX2 transmitters and [Shure Mic Flag Extenders](https://www.shure.com/en-US/products/accessories/wa653?variant=WA653).

Ashby de la Zouch, UK, February 2024 — George Vlad, a professional sound designer, recordist, and composer, packed his bags and set off on an adventure to Patagonia. His goal was more than just braving extreme weather conditions and noisy environments to record sounds. George was on a mission to capture the unheard symphony of nature, to bring attention to the significance of sound in our visually saturated world and the unique beauty that lies within the noise of our acoustically polluted globe. His journey wasn't just about collecting sounds; it was about making us listen.

Armed with Rycote's audio equipment, George Vlad had a clear purpose in mind. This time he wasn't just out to record sounds, he was on a mission to push the boundaries of what's possible. He ventured into extreme weather conditions and noisy environments, testing the limits and exploring the constraints of sound capture. His goal went beyond mere exploration, George wanted to underscore the importance of sound in our predominantly visual culture. 

> Being a passionate sound designer, recordist, and composer, I have always been fascinated by sounds that aren't readily accessible. It's this fascination that compels me to travel the world, to capture and reproduce these unique sounds. My eagerness to explore places where no human ears have heard is relentless. There's an indescribable thrill in being the first one to record such an untouched sound environment. However, each year, it becomes increasingly challenging due to the expanding human footprint.

Patagonia, a region at the southern end of South America, is known for its breathtakingly beautiful landscapes and its diverse and unpredictable weather conditions. Often described as experiencing "four seasons in a day," the climate here can shift rapidly from strong winds to heavy rain. In this context, Vlad embarked on a week-long expedition involving a strenuous 8-hour uphill hike. 

> My adventure in Patagonia underscored the importance of reliable audio equipment in challenging conditions. Despite the challenges presented by restrictions on off-track wandering and traffic noise, I managed to capture Patagonia's unique sounds without violating any rules. We had to hike up a hill for around eight hours to find a spot in a secluded area shielded by a large hill, providing a tranquil place to capture pristine forest sounds. It was essential to pack wisely and travel light, carrying versatile but robust gear. In this regard, Rycote's equipment proved to be incredibly handy.

Vlad utilised four Rycote Nano Shields, treated with Nikwax for added protection against the elements. He also carried various microphones, including a Rycote BD10 for testing. Despite hauling 30-40 kg of equipment, including JOBY GorillaPods and sound devices recorders, all gear proved resilient and portable during the long hikes.
